This blog is not something that I had planned on doing prior to today. The idea for it happened while in a meditative state after I woke up this morning. While I was contemplating my current daily routine, and most importantly, thinking of my recent gaming obsession, I had a small revelation. It all has to do with the MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game), called
Everquest.
Let me elaborate. Five years ago, I was introduced to Everquest. It quickly became an obsession that I suffered from for nearly three years. I quit playing about the same time my daughter was born. I simply did not have enough time to play. To me, the main goal of the game was character advancement, meaning the gaining of experience levels. I recently started playing again, after a 2+ year hiatus.
A basic question I have asked myself many times is, why would I want to play Everquest, and not some other game? The answer I have come up with is, short-term goals and rewards. The game has a series of short-term goals, with each goal being to obtain the next level. If you think about it, we all have short-term goals that we work on everyday, in real life. One of those goals is to make it through one more day of existence. Most of us are fairly successful at meeting this goal.
You can probably see where I am taking this and based on the title of my blog, what my revelation has led me to do. I want to lose weight, mostly because of my diabetes. Maybe if I lose weight and become healthier, I will not need to take the diabetes meds I am currently taking. So, my goal is to lose weight. This blog is my PC. PC is an Everquest (EQ) term for player character, a person's avatar in the game, the entity which gains levels, items, and has adventures. This blog will record every step of my weight loss adventure.
My initial goal is to get down to 200 pounds. I currently weigh 235, as of this morning. The main purpose of this blog though, is to track my daily goal, which is to eat healthy, smaller quantities. You will see daily posts that detail the days activities, eating-wise for me. It will become apparent rather quickly, if I am serious about my long-term goal or not.
I am not calorie counting, or doing any sort of counting on this diet. I have done counting, and I have no patience for it. I know basically what I should and should not be eating. So, I will eat accordingly, easy on the carbs, no overeating, and try to eat a balanced diet (vegetables and fruits as well as everything else).
On with the blog!!!
